Fresh off a record year for crypto funding deals, storied venture capital firm Sequoia Capital announced Thursday it has launched a crypto-focused fund with between $500 million and $600 million in capital, becoming the latest Silicon Valley giant to plow money into the burgeoning cryptocurrency space.

Is Sequoia a newcomer to crypto?

Tokens or no, Sequoia is not exactly a newcomer to crypto. Its Chinese and Indian arms have dabbled in crypto projects before. The U.S. wing apparently has, too: a review of public filings showed the firm has worked with Coinbase Custody since at least late June. A spokesperson for Sequoia did not immediately comment.
